James Bohman: An Oral History

James Bohman, Professor Emeritus at St. Louis University, is a scholar of political and social philosophy, especially including theories of Deliberative Democracy. He studied with Jurgen Habermas. Dr. Bohman held the Danforth I Chair in the Humanities and was Professor of Philosophy and Professor of International Studies. His primary areas of research include political philosophy (deliberative and transnational democracy) and the philosophy of social science (rationality and normativity). He also has done work in German philosophy (Critical Theory and German Idealism). He was director of the Critical Theory Roundtable and co-director of the Philosophy of Social Science Roundtable. In 2018, Dr. Bohman's daughter, Lena Bohman, while studying at Brown University (A.B.'18 American Studies), embarked on a thesis project to document the life and career of her father.
