Abstract
Coachella Valley School District closed all schools today due to protests by Community Committee for Alternative Education. The group demands the removal of two teachers Elizabeth Jane Coffey and Don Cochran for child abuse. The school board reassigned Coffey and Cochran to non-teaching positions. Superintendent Eugene Tucker said the legal status of the teachers involved in the demonstration is coming into question. Tucker said a complaint of the CCAE is that the district is not "sensitive" to Chicano needs and they want control of the schools.
