<mods:abstract>Gilberto Esquivel was the manager of a local radio station in Coachella during the 1970's. He hosted a program called Enfasis where he discussed political issues facing the Latino community, including the rights of students to bilingual education and the charges of abuse which the Community Committee for Alternatives in Education (CCAE) brought against Coachella Valley Unified School District teachers. Socorro Gomez was often a guest on his show. During the struggle surrounding the walkouts Gilberto met and later married Yolanda Almaraz. Today they live in Riverside, California with their three children. </mods:abstract>
