  <mods:abstract lang="eng"> 
 The article discusses the modern conflicts in Iraq and Syria which leads to the destruction of its cultural heritage and traditions. Topics include the goal of violent extremists to disseminate their message and promoting fear by destroying buildings, the need to stop the illicit trafficking and cultural goods such as artifacts from the region, and the aid of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in providing education and school building across the Iraq.
