An essay on international security's gendered nature and the role of masculinity in global politics is presented. Topics discussed include masculinity's assessment through individual, family, state, system and international levels of analysis, the influence of masculinity on international security and international relations (IR), and masculinity's hierarchy, hegemony and intersectionality. Also mentioned are comparisons with feminist IR and the construction of various military masculinities.
