The article discusses the role of religion and culture in the socioeconomic development of several African countries. Topics addressed include the increased visibility of religious leaders and institutions due to globalization and neoliberalism, the practice of Islam, Christianity and African Traditional Religions (ATR), and the need for Western policymakers and donors to seek to include religious leaders and institutions in decision-making processes in and about Africa.
