  <mods:abstract lang="eng"> 
 The article focuses on issues concerning food shortage and the rising food prices as of September 2011. The decision of the U.S., Canada, the European Union, and Indonesia to divert a major portion of their grain and oilseed crops to making automotive fuel is the real cause of the food shortage. It also mentions some of the farming developments that might offer future solutions to the present inadequate farming technology, including drought-tolerant crops, aluminum-tolerant crops, and blight-resistant potatoes. The author recommends ending the production of crop-based biofuels, citing algae as the only planet-safe biofuel source, and investing m500*26ore in agricultural research with emphasis on yield gains.
