An interview with Kenneth Maxwell, founding director of the Brazil Studies Program at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University, is presented. Maxwell cites the challenges facing Brazilian President-elect Dilma Rousseff, one of which is establishing independence from outgoing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He believes the leadership of Rousseff will be interesting as she is the first female president of the country. Maxwell cites several historical factors that has led the country to economic growth.
