Abstract
This document, the written portion of my dissertation project, is a companion to the interactive multimedia performance work Unless (2009), which featured movement artist Emily Beattie and was performed twice in May of 2009 and November of 2009 respectively. It details the inspirations and foundations for the creative project from a theoretical, technical and aesthetic perspective. In addition, it contains critical commentary and analysis, but should never be read solely as a review or summary of the work completed. Instead, it should also be considered an exploration of the underlying fundamentals that form the basis of an original interdisciplinary approach to aesthetic production, research and general inquiry.
