Abstract
Abstract of Prototype Design of a Photonic Retinal Prosthesis, by Kenzie Magnan, ScM, Brown University, May 2020. This thesis presented the mechanical and brief optical design of a photonic retinal prosthesis. The mechanical design utilized SolidWorks to develop a headset for use as a retinal prosthetic for individuals with retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disorder characterized by loss of photoreceptors and pigment deposits on the retina. Hardware component selection was completed and a brief optical calculation was done to determine how the hardware would be controlled to relay an image on the retina using gold nanorods and near infrared stimulation.
