- Abstract
- This interview was conducted on March 11, 2008 at the residence of Jean Correira in Warwick RI. Jean Correira was born during the late 1930s in the Fox Point neighborhood. During her early years she lived at 419 Benefit Street. When her aunt bought a piece of property at 16 Sheldon Street, the family moved there. This was a big change for the family because they each had their own room and they had indoor plumbing for the first time. By this point though her parentâs had divorced and her father was living in South Providence with a new wife and stepdaughter. She described her childhood as full of adventure: going on trolley and bus rides, engaging in risky behavior with friends. She dropped out of school at age 16 and after working for a while found a job as a custodian at Brown University. She especially loved working in the Gardner House, the guest house of the President of the University. There she met icons such as Jane Fonda, Ted Turner, and one of the Beatles. She loved working for the University. She moved away from Fox Point because she did not enjoy being a landlord although she misses it now.
