Abstract
Dorothy Mathews' grandparents bought a house in Fox Point in the early 1900s when they arrived from the Azores. On May 26, 1928 Dorothy was born in that house and still lives there. She has fond memories of growing up in Fox Point, surrounded by children of all backgrounds, playing without there ever being any tension. After marrying Everett Mathews, another Fox Point native, she raised her family in that same house and worked for the Rhode Island public schools as a secretary at Hope High School. She recalls the race riots that broke out in the school in 1969
