Calabash guem

Description

Abstract:
According to Koetting's notes, other performances from this event include Bateri, Atandaga, Adoekua. Calabash guem transfers guem rhythms, generally played on kori and gungonga in the standard style, to half-calabashes. The text of the song boasts that when the narrator sings (possibly serving as a reference to Puali, the song's composer), all the women dance and their husbands become angry.
Notes:
Instrumentation: calabashes (2 struck with metal rings, 2 with hands/fists)
Place of recording: Kayoro
Performance history: performance-demonstration
Tape location: Reel 104, Track 08
