Gilham Stanes formerly Corporal 62nd Regt. Foot. Born at Brighton 1766: This eccentric Character while serving in Ireland in 1803, at the period of the rebellious and fatal attack on Lord Kilwarden was so seriously wounded as to be rendered unfit for service. Since which for 22 years he has taken up his abode on the North Level, in a Hut constructed by himself in the simplest form. Attach'd to this is a minature [sic] Battery from which a Gun is fired every Evening at Sun set
