Austrian bugaboo funking the French army

Description

Abstract:
This loosely engraved sheet depicts an "Austrian Bugaboo," a figure constructed with long bowed legs, a long beard and a large head, blows smoke at the frightened French Army in retreat. Figures in this raggged French army, a jumble of heads, arms and weapons, are suggested by quickly drawn lines and the application of color washes.
Notes:
Published by Hannah Humphrey, 1792-05-12. This caricature is not listed in Broadley. Alphabetically it falls between Broadley 33 and 34 (33.5?).

Dialogue: Soldiers: "La Liberté! La Liberté! --de s'en faire..."
Verse: "While loyal honour warm'd a Frenchman's breast,/ The field of Battle was a glorious test;/ Nobly ambitious for his King to fight,/ To die or conquer was a Soldiers Right,/ A strange reverse the Democrats displey,/ And prove the "Right of Man"__to run away__"
