Britania's assassination, or--the Republicans amusement

Description

Abstract:
Etched caricature plate (after Gillray), published May 10th, 1782; politicians, military officers and others dismembering statue of Britannia and running off with various parts. Print includes members of the new ministry, among them, Fox, Wilkes, Dunning, Richmond, Burke, and Keppel; others preventing them from doing further damage includeThurow and Mansfield who pull them away from the statue with a rope. A Native American, representing America, a Frenchman, a Spaniard, and a Dutchman run off with pieces of Britannia.
