Abstract
Excerpt from oral history interview with Robin Tagliaferri. Tagliaferri (whose name means “iron-cutter” in Italian) reminisces about her grandfather, an immigrant working as a smelter at Gorham. She describes the relation between Italian craft skills and the needs of the company, and effects of the work on her grandfather’s health. She relates an anecdote about stray pieces of silverware on the lawn, which were sometimes tossed by workers out the factory window.
Note
This oral history was conducted by a Brown University student in Anne Valk and Holly Ewald's fall 2011 course "Oral History and Community Memory".
