- In this interview, Cliff Montiero discusses his experiences with Mashapaug Pond,
including baptism and friends living in the area, and analyzes the reasons and consequences of
the urban renewal of the industrial park area on the communities of color. He discusses the
community that existed within this space as well as what their lives were like. He also
discusses race relations and his work in the civil rights movement. He talks about the
Providence black community in general, including important community spaces, movements, and
economics. He also discusses the baseball games near the pond and the racial politics behind
home ownership.
