Community adaptation to the risks of climate change

Description

Abstract:
Background: Since 2010, damaging and costly storms have hit the Northeast with a trend of increasing frequency, which is only expected to rise due to the effects of climate change. These storms have raised questions about the adequacy of the region's risk-management system. Our research is focused on the role of local governments, which have land use planning and regulation within their jurisdiction. This research seeks to understand what cities and towns in the Northeast have done and could do to adapt to climate change.
