Teaching with technology: training pre-service and in-service teachers in theory and application

Description

Abstract:
“Teaching with Technology” addresses the need for better teacher training in integrating technology in the classroom. Currently many teacher preparation programs do not provide teachers adequate skills to facilitate blended learning. The goals of this UTRA project, conducted with Professor Eric Shed of Brown University's Education Studies Department, were as follows: 1. Review literature and develop a theoretical framework to guide future research and course development; 2. Design a course for Brown undergraduate and MAT students on how to effectively utilize various technologies in the classroom and combine technology with pedagogical and content knowledge; 3. Design a study that examines the use of technology in the field; 4. Observe teacher training classes in technology; and 5. Begin developing instructional materials for students.
