- Abstract
- A photograph of the exterior of the Eglise de la Madeline, Paris, France. The church was begun in 1763, again in 1777, a third time in 1806, and finally consecrated in 1842, after a drawn-out debate over what purpose it should serve (suggestions ranged from a marketplace to a secular monument) and the death of several of the principal architects. The facade, visible in this photograph, was inspired by a Roman temple, the Maison Carree in Nimes, France.
