Response to invitation to meeting in New York on April 19, 1866 to meet Louis Bulewski, envoy to America of the Friends of Republican Principles in Europe. The author of this letter will be unable to attend the meeting, but expresses his joy in the prospect of American and European collaboration in the "holy enterprise of ridding the nations of despots." The verso of this letter is inaccessible because the letter has been glued firmly to the scrapbook page.
