I began concocting weird stuff incredible ages ago, &amp; have some infantile things [ The Mysterious Ship, The Secret of the Grave, &amp;c.] written when I was eight. The earliest tale that I continue to take seriously - The Beast in the Cave was written at the age of fourteen; &amp; even this will have to be revised extensively before it can be published. My style in those days was a pompous Johnsonese, for I am an antiquarian by nature, &amp; never used to read a modern book if I could possibly find anything with long S's to take its place. ... My novel - or novelette, since it came to 110 pages - is now finished, &amp; I have given it the provisional title of The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath. I am not sure how well I like it, but you will certainly see it as soon as it is in typed form"</mods:abstract>
