- Envelope postmarked Mar. 29, 1927 P.S. on verso of the envelope. Enclosed are two photographs depicting the "Halsey Mansion" and the farm house on the other side of the street, at the corner of Barnes and Prospect Streets. "I am returning The Shadow of a Woman At The Window herewith - & while I think of it I must thank you for the compliment implied in the inclusion of my name among your cited horror-authors. I am giving Clark Ashton Smith such a mention - as you know - in my Pickman's Model ... I don't know when I'll ever get those novelettes typed, but I have just written another tale of the same length as [Cthulhu] ... This deals with a terror that came to earth on a meteor, & is called The Colour out of Space ... Yes - it is certainly hard to find anyone interested in the weird. I never encountered one till 1917, when I stumbled simultaneously on Cook & Loveman. Then, through Loveman I got in touch with Smith; & had meanwhile come across Long. Through Weird Tales I encountered young August W. Derleth of Wisconsin ... & Bernard Dwyer of New York State; and through Smith I had the pleasure of making your acquaintance - this being the complete list of my gothick circle to date"
