Description
- Abstract:
- Incomplete, final leaf [II] only. Date inferred from contents. Contains drawing of a scene [featuring indications of a steeple and a ship's rigged mast] as viewed through the doorway from inside of the John Brown House. Later mentions: "My trip was certainly the premier event of recent years. First I visited W. Paul Cook in Athol, & was taken by him [to] ... colonial Deerfield, primitive Vermont, & picturesque New Hampshire. In West Brattleboro we called on ... Arthur Goodenough ... I went by stage-coach to Boston, stopped at the Y, & the next day took the coach for Portland ... From Portland I retraced my steps to Portsmouth [then] ... I proceeded to Newburyport." HPL later visited Gloucester, Rockport, the Magnolia Cliffs, Manchester, Beverly, Salem, Marblehead, Lynn and Boston "before reaching home Friday midnight." Closes: "Are you returning to Columbia this year? Don't let the bookplate matter bother you, & don't attempt any difficult design where a simpler one is possible"
