The story was written in collaboration with E. Hoffmann Price between October 1932 and April 1933 (SL 568, HPL to EHP, Oct. 3, 1932: "I perused your Randolph Carter sequel with the keenest interest ... and I profoundly hope we can get it into publishable shape sooner or later."; SL 614, HPL to EHP, Apr. 6, 1933: "Gawd what a job! I suppose you'll be disappointed, but this is really the best I can do. Of course, this is only a first draught ..."). This manuscript copy, in pencil, is predominantly in HPL's hand.
