Near the base of the mountain there are many little lakes which seem to rejoice in reflecting the grand peak. Mount Rainier has more than thirty glaciers extending over an area of one hundred square miles. This isolated peak, crowned with glittering ice and snow, rising from beds of multicolored flowers to an altitude of 14,539 feet, is like a perfect solitaire diamond.
