Returning veterans added much to classes--some knew more than professors about other countries. VE Day was very exciting--march through tunnel. Many fraternities formed most of the social life on campus at the time. Smoking was common. 1948 Constance Hurley Andrews was a Providence native; her father was a lawyer and Brown graduate. Her husband was a 1941 Brown graduate and a war veteran. Her marriage was planned early so she had no career plans. Eventually she got a library degree and so did her husband. She lived one year in Washington as her husband was called back for the Korean War.
