Entries are dated from either Camp Butts Hill [now part of Portsmouth, Rhode Island] or Headquarters Newport dated from Aug. 30, 1780 to Oct. 9, 1780.
Orderly Books were the controlling document of the day-to-day life in the military, most notably during the Revolutionary War. They contain handwritten military orders, movements and engagements by brigade, regiment, company and other specific military units. Provides detailed accounts of troops' daily lives, documenting everything from court martial cases to the price of necessities charged by locals.
