- Jeremiah Lewis Diman, Class of 1851, was professor of history and political economy. He went on to study theology and philosophy and served in the ministry as a Trinitarian Congregationalist. His father, Byron Diman, became governor of Rhode Island and his son, John Byron Dimon founded St. George's School in Middletown, Portsmouth Priory School, and the Diman Vocational School in Fall River, Mass.
