Milwaukee 1934

Description

Abstract:
Cover and title page for the annual consolidated report of the Common Council, entitled "Municipal Activities of Milwaukee for 1934." The cover, printed on green paper, bears a woodcut by Wisconsin artist John J. Knight of Gaetano Cecere's 1934 statue "Abraham Lincoln," as installed in Milwaukee's Lincoln Memorial Park.. The reverse of the title page explains that the cover design is "based on Milwaukee's first memorial statue of Abraham Lincoln, built largely with the pennies of school children and the contribution of factory workers and G. A. R. veterans."
