Alpert Medical School text posters 2016 eng Medical Humanities and Ethics Medical schools are increasingly exposing students to art appreciation as part of an interdisciplinary curriculum, but actual art practice as a method of reflection has not been explored in a medical school course. The authors designed an innovative medical humanities elective that utilizes creative practices like drawing, photography, poetry, and creative writing. Meeting professional artists gives students an intimate perspective on how artists think and produce their work. This course is currently in progress and will be evaluated for whether the students develop skills relevant to their clinical training, like close observation and active listening.
