Abstract
Sharon Conard-Wells shares about the grassroots community organizing in the West Elmwood neighborhood in the 1970s onward in which he became active through the West Elmwood Housing Development Corporation, where she serves as the Executive Director. She describes one elder African American who described moving to West Elmwood when it was mainly a white-ethnic neighborhood. Conard-Wells also describes the need for Providence neighborhoods to work together and refuse to abide by negative stereotypes of the West End or West Elmwood
