Abstract
Five caricatures of Lincoln. by H.L. Stephens. In the upper left he is seen with overly large shoes labelled "military necessity" having walked upon "constitution" and "habeas corpus". This cartoon is captioned "Melancholy accident to a gentleman in high life". The second features Stratton and the N.Y. Herald knocking on the door of the White House. In the third, "A Bitter 'Draught'", Lincoln, as a physician, is seen giving medicine (conscription) to a young man. At the lower left, "'Mac', the giant killer" (McClellan) is seen holding the constitution on Lincoln's dead body. The lower right, captioned "Love me little, love me long," has Lincoln bending over to a slave
