- Abstract
- The study of national belonging among religious-minorities is limited in sociology but even limited is this study in post-colonial Islamic countries. This qualitative study of Pakistani Hindus in the city of Karachi across class illustrates that nationness and minorityness cannot be understood separately from each other. National, minority and religious aspects of subjectivities interact for religious minorities to create a unique religious-minority-national subject. The role of class is important for the formation of such a subject but mostly through the channel of a different national subject formation across class rather than minority or religious subject formation. Further, I explain that this subject formation happens through the interaction of local experiences with national and transnational imaginaries and structures.
