<mods:abstract>There are a variety of challenges that face modern retinal prosthesis designs including electrode cross-talk and retinal-electrode interface separation. We propose a biohybrid retinal prosthesis utilizing axonal bridges and electrical stimulation to improve visual acuity and reduce stimulation threshold levels. We also describe the initial stages of microelectrode fabrication, cell culture, and growth factor release profiling for in-vitro testing of a potential prosthesis and propose future steps for potential design of an implantable device.</mods:abstract>
