Abstract
Reproduction painting from the book "The Boys' Life of Abraham Lincoln" by Helen Nicolay (1906). Text reads: "When Horsemanship and a Good Constitution Were Necessary in the Practice of Law - Abraham Lincoln Riding the Circuit, from a painting by Hambridge (sic) - Between 1849 and 1854 he devoted himself to the law and became of the leaders of the Illinois bar. His small fees- he once charged $3.50 for collecting $600- his frequent refusals to take cases which he did not think right and his attempts to prevent unnecessary litigation have become proverbial, - The Encyclopedia Britannica."
