Letter recommends appointment of Dr. James B. Greeley, late of the 1st R.I. Cavalry; with A.N.S. of William Sprague, concurring in recommendation, Dec. 17, 1862; A.N.S. of Lincoln, Dec. 27, 1862, referring matter to Surgeon General; N.S. of (Surgeon Gen.) W.A. Hammond, suggesting the appointment cannot be made; A.N.S. of Lincoln, Jan. 5, 1863, stating that "The Senators see the Surgeon General's answer hereon."
