- Note
- There is no consensus as to the first edition of this work or the author of it. Some attribute the work to Voltaire, others to Charles-Claude-Florent Thorel de Campigneulles or Henri-Joseph du Laurens. Some cite a first edition from 1759, others from 1761; other editions are listed for 1767, and this one for 1769. The only agreement is that it is "part two" of Voltaire's Candide, ou l'Optimisme, first printed [S.l.], 1759.
- Note
- The Cat. collectif de France online cites several records for this work: one is unattributed and gives Geneva as place of publication; the other is attributed to Voltaire and gives place of publication as Geneva [i.e. Rouen]
- Note
- The British Museum cat. leaves this work unattributed and calls this work "an imitation of Voltaire's 'Candide'" and cites only a Geneva, 1767 edition.
- Note
- Attributed to M. de Campigneulles by Barbier who cites 1759 and 1761 editions.
- Note
- Quérard attributes work to Charles-Claude-Florent de Thorel de Campigneulles.
- Note
- Larousse's Grand dict. universel does not attribute to Charles-Claude-Florent de Thorel de Campigneulles but to Henri-Joseph Dularuens (1719-1797)
