- Sobre a revista Orpheu e seu contexto muito se tem escrito ultimamente, mas duas ausências flagrantemente se acusam: como se fosse possível conceber o mítico tangedor de lira sem falar da arte das musas, e como se fosse possível imaginá-lo ignorando a essencialidade da ninfa desafortunada, pouco se tem escrito sobre música, pouco se tem escrito sobre Eurídice. Este artigo procura reflectir sobre estas duas ausências em desvelando alguns passos do início de carreira de Ruy Coelho (1889-1986), compositor ainda hoje praticamente esquecido, problematizando-o em função do recém-descoberto manuscrito "O verdadeiro sentido da Arte Moderna em Portugal" (1922) e de um ignorado insólito de há cinquenta anos--a ópera-declamação-ballet-mímica Orfeu em Lisboa (1963-1966).
- Much has been written lately about Orpheu and its context, but there have been two noteworthy absences: as if it were possible to conceive of the mythical player of lyre without speaking of the art of the muses and, as if it were possible to imagine him while ignoring the importance of the unfortunate nymph, little has been written about music, little about Eurydice. This article tries to reflect on these two absences by revealing some steps of the beginning of the career of Ruy Coelho (1889-1986), a compositor still virtually unknown nowadays, raising some questions regarding the recent discovery of the manuscript "O verdadeiro sentido da Arte Moderna em Portugal" (1922) and of a largely ignored unusual event from fifty years ago - the opera-reading-ballet-mime Orfeu em Lisboa (1963-1966).
