Abstract:
Diary she kept during her stay in Paris. She describes the hardships of poverty, her eagerness to work on her sculptures, the generosity of those who assisted her and the sculptures she created.

American sculptress born in Warwick, Rhode Island of a Narraganset Indian father and an Afro-American mother. Studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and taught in various schools. Her work became well-known throughout Europe and the United States.
