Abstract
Aging is the main contributing factor when it comes to the development of neurological diseases. Astrocytes in the subventricular zone (SVZ) play an important role in the brain’s ability to handle the aging process. It was found in a previous study in this lab that there may be a difference in the change in expression of certain genes with age between male and female mice. The difference in the expression of calcium related genes with aging between males and females could be an important factor in developing personalized therapeutics. There may be a change in expression of the Calm1, Calm3, Adcy1, and Camk2n1 genes with aging in male mice. This data will be used in future experiments where it will be compared with change in expression data from female mice to see if there is a statistical difference in the change of expression with aging of these genes between male and female mice.
