Taking race out of human genetics

Description

Abstract:
This article addresses the use of race as a biological category in medical research. The authors outline the controversial history of racial research, and call attention to the flaws in deeming race a biological category. They argue that the use of race in genetics is inexact, and has led to the perpetuation of racist beliefs. They propose a shift in the scientific language of race and an end to the use of race as a biological grouping.
