Speak of the Past and It Shall Teach Thee: Learning Through Oral Presentations

Description

Abstract:
A recent study found that students and teachers differed significantly in their conception of the role and purpose of oral presentations. A literature review was performed to provide a theoretical background and understand prior interventions. An informal needs assessment was also performed by surveying Internal Medicine and Pediatrics clerkship directors, teaching attendings, and medical students. Two oral presentation guides were prepared: one for the presentation of a new patient (Appendix 1) and the second for a follow-up patient (Appendix 2).
