Akumcham: Site of Babatu's Wife's Execution

Description

Abstract:
A Man in Sandema pointing at Akumcham, a spot where Babatu's wife is said to have been executed at the peak of resistance to slave raids among the Bulsa. Babatu, the notorious slave trader, abandoned his wife in the face of defeat. The spot is called “Akumcham”, meaning the creeping shea tree, “a metaphor for Babatu’s wife’s agony.”
