- The Answer to the Cybersecurity Skill Gap? She is Hiding in Plain Sight
- Abstract
- There are two job openings for every candidate or an estimated one million open cybersecurity jobs, along with zero percent unemployment in the field. In other words, all the individuals with cybersecurity skills who want a job can have a job. Yet, there still remain a million unfilled jobs. In a Fall 2017 hearing entitled “Challenges of recruiting and retaining a cybersecurity work force” before the subcommittee on cybersecurity and infrastructure protection, Chairman John Ratcliffe shared in his opening statement that, “Cyber attacks are growing in frequency and they are growing in their sophistication, but the availability of qualified cybersecurity professionals to deal with these challenges is unfortunately not keeping pace. There have been several studies over the past few years documenting the growing shortage of cybersecurity professionals. In this ever-increasingly connected world, the problem is only going to get worse.” In short, we have a problem, the problem is growing and the problem is expected to continue growing.
