A Narrative-Based Approach to Understanding Health Needs and Experiences Among Syrian Refugees in Amman, Jordan
Abstract
Since 2011, the Syrian Civil War has displaced around 5.5 million Syrians, most of whom live as refugees in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan. In Jordan, Syrian refugees currently face various challenges navigating the healthcare system, such as lack of access to to treatment for chronic illnesses. This project aims to use narrative to understand the relationship between health, forced migration and identity among Syrian refugees in Amman. Participants were recruited through a local NGO, family and personal connections. 11 semi-structured interviews were conducted key themes were identified.
