2010 Brown Festival of Dance

Description

Abstract:
The highlight of this program was Dance Extension in Paul Taylor's iconic work, "Esplanade." Producer Julie Adams Strandberg remarked in her program note that Taylor repertory is rarely set outside of the professional and conservatory worlds and that members of Extension join a small group of performers who will embody forever the language of one of the icons of American dance. "Esplanade" was staged by Ruth Andrien, dancer in the original cast. The dancers were also coached by Carolyn Adams, an original cast member, and Taylor dancer Robert Kahn. Extension also performed Danny Grossman's "Ecce Etude," and 2005 alumnus Jude Sandy's "A Day Before the Unbecoming" with guest performers Laura Bennett '92 and Shura Baryshnikov. The program also included "Road Home Zydeco," a full-act work by Michelle Bach-Coulibaly, Giselle Escotto, and New Works/World Traditions, and "Displaced Dreams" by guest choreographer, Alli Ross. The student choreographer for this show was: Grisselle Escotto. The alumni choreographer and the dances in which they performed for this show were: Jude Sandy '05, "A Day Before the Unbecoming"
