Data for "Quantification, Inequality, and the Contestation of School Closures in Philadelphia"

Description

Abstract:
This data set contains files related to the 2012-13 school closure process in Philadelphia, during which 24 public schools were shut down. Quantitative data include metrics used by the district's Facilities Master Plan to identify schools for closure, and variables drawn from the Decennial Census and the Common Core of Data on school and neighborhood demographics. Qualitative data include written testimony from community members opposing meetings, video of community meetings, and official transcripts of formal closure hearings in front of the School Reform Commission.
