- The Role of Type 2 Polyaxonal Amacrine Cells (PAC2) in mediating light adaptation
- Abstract
- We propose that selected ipRGCs form electrical gap junctions with a special type of wide-eld amacrine cell known as the Type 2 Polyaxonal Amacrine Cell (PAC2). These PACs, in turn, distribute the intensity information across the retina and modulate the contrast-encoding pathway. We tested this hypothesis by reconstructing a PAC2 and its postsynaptic partners in a serial electron microscopy dataset. The axons of PAC2s were scanned for membrane swelling or the presence of vesicles in order to reconstruct the BCs, RGCs and ACs receiving input from the PAC2s.
